Job description : Chief Engineer

Job Purpose:

  • Manage the mechanical team in all aspects of the works that need to be completed on vessel in the dry docks and afloat
  • Ensure the maintenance of equipment in the yard
  • Managing the stock of critical spares for the mechanical department
  • Project management as required

 

Job Description:

  • Supervise the mechanical staff, including scheduling of works and daily operations
  • Manage others through subordinate supervisors
  • Manage the electrician in his day-to-day workings
  • Draw up and manage maintenance plans for all yard equipment
  • Write reports for works completed to hand to clients
  • Manage specialised tools and maintenance of these tools
  • Ensure that sufficient spares are in stock to completes basic works
  • Inform GM if any specialised tools are required to complete tasks
  • Assist with pricing for projects as required
  • Project manage any special projects as directed by GM
  • Keep GM and dry dock manager updated on progress of tasks
  • Performance manages mechanical technicians with input from supervisors
  • Provides training to staff who are identified as requiring training
  • Promote safety culture within the team
  • Engage with TSS SHE-Q team on recording safety issues that occur

 

Qualifications:

  • Hold an Unlimited Chief engineer certificate unlimited / 2nd-1st engineer unlimited certificate
  • Must have sailed for at least 3 years in 2nd-1st engineer or CE position
  • Any shore experience in a shipyard will be given preference
  • Preferred qualifications – (Not essential)
  • A basic management certificate
  • Project management certificate

 

Working Conditions:

  • This is a hands-on position that required the candidate to work on projects as well as in a office
  • Travel is required from time to time depending on where works are to be completed
  • Works are expected to be completed on land and at sea
  • The working hours are 07:00 - 16:30 Monday to Friday with overtime expected to be completed from time to time
  • Normal labour laws apply for leave and public holidays
